Letter to Władysław Tatarkiewicz written 24.11.1962

Cracow, 24/11/62

Dear Władysław!

Thank you very much for the card and for the invitation to submit something to Aesthetics, but that ‘lecture’ in the Aesthetic Section is only the inauguration of a discussion; the topic is significantly narrower, due to a certain inaccuracy that occurred in the title. It was supposed to be ‘The question of formal (structural) systems of valuable aesthetic qualities’. The entire course of the meeting will be taken down on the tape recorder. When I transcribe it, I’ll see whether any of it is publishable. Csató’s article is in Volume III of Aesthetics. I don’t know whether I’ll get around to responding. As usual, nothing but misunderstandings; anyway, the article’s good, only it’s not talking about the same thing I am. Csató’s a theatre person; I study a work presented in the theatre ‒ that’s the difference. Anyway, I’ve got a frightful flood of assignments. Among other things, a great many columns of Volume VI of my complete works. In January, I was supposed to publish Vol. II of Spór [The Controversy over the Existence of the World] in German. Nothing’s going to come of that. Six doctoral and postdoctoral dissertations finished me off. ‒ I’m asking first of all for Fr Tischner’s review; however, XXX XXX XXX[O1] ’s defence may not take place until January. Leszczyński has already sent off his review.

            Cordial greetings

                                   Your Roman
