Postcard from Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz written 21.04.1938
21.IV 1938
Honoured and Dear Professor:
Thank you for sending me back the MSN [Manuscripts] and I apologize for the inconvenience. But apart from the dissertation about idealism, wasn’t there a dissertation about the object and the act, which I have to remake completely. If so, kindly resend it. I cannot get myself to write the letter because I am in a state of complete depression due to quite disastrous personal experiences. I am reading Carnap and I am preparing for this fight, but I do not know what will happen to me at all. For now, my mental situation is pretty hopeless. I met Mrs. Skłoniewska here and I had an important conversation with her. Of course, at the request of Mrs. Gromska, I have given up the idea of polemics with Metallmann in the “Ruch” journal. I am very pleased (if I can be at all) that the summary of M[etallmann’s] reading and critique will be published . I apologize for the insignificance of this card, but my condition is heavy. When I shave in the morning, I have the impression that I am shaving my own corpse ready for a coffin.
