Letter to Władysław Tatarkiewicz written 20.01.1964

Dear Władysław,

I’d be grateful if you’d let me know whether it’s true that an international Aesthetic Society has been established and that you’re a member of its Board. I don’t know anything about it, nor did I hear anything during my stay in London. However, Prof. Żółkiewski has written me about it in response to my letter regarding the participation of Poles in the Congress of Aesthetics in Amsterdam. Specifically, he claims that the Polish Academy of Sciences acknowledged only one candidate for membership in this congress, namely yourself as a member of that Board. I think that this is a mistake and that he means the International Committee, but before I write to him, I’d like to have a confirmation of this supposition from you. Żółkiewski refused, moreover, to cover the costs of paying the membership fee for Gałecki, Elzenberg, and Gołaszewska, who have sent or who want to send their papers, due [O1] to a lack of funds. He advises contacting the Ministry, which, of course, is completely pointless.

I’ve spent almost three weeks in Rabka[O2] , where I’m trying to get rid of high blood pressure and some kind of cardiac ailment. I’m returning to Cracow only at the end of this week, and I’ll stay there for the time being. The weather is much better in Rabka (actually a splendid winter), and besides that, there’s no Cracow or Jagiellonian University, and that also has a good effect on my nerves.

Please send me some information (to Cracow). I’m attaching cordial greetings for you as well as best regards to your wife

                                                                                                      Your Roman

Rabka, 20/1/64
