21 April, 38
Dear Mr. Ingarden, I can only reply to your kind letter of April 8 with a few lines. I am extremely worried about my husband whose condition is cause of great concern. Despite his indescribable weakness, there is still deep spiritual life in him, which he can rarely articulate. There is nothing earthly about him; he exudes a heavenly patience, love and benevolence which surround all the people who remained loyal to him. This includes you, too!
A few days ago, he woke up from a deep sleep and said, “God accepted me in grace and allowed me to die.”
And I shall live on!?
Yours,
M[alvine] Husserl
